Highlights from the TIOBE Index for May 2014

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the monthly TIOBE index, it is an indicator of the popularity of programming languages. Here are highlights from the most recent index:

  • C++, Python and PHP usage appear to be in free fall.
  • Objective-C usage is sky-rocketing, threatening to overtake C and Java as the most used programming language.
  • Looks like Scala has trounced Clojure as the emerging JVM-based functional language (though Microsoft’s F# beats Scala by a significant margin).
