Testing IE6/IE7 in an IE8 World

Our client has a requirement to support IE6 and IE7.

There is a significant amount of CSS, Javascript, and AJAX in the application, and simulating different versions of IE using something like IETester was not catching all of the problems. Getting different versions of IE to run side by side on the same machine is very difficult (impossible?) and it was proving to be disruptive to have different machines with different versions of IE6. Developers kept having to interrupt each other to do testing.

Fortunately, Microsoft has a nice solution for this:

Now all of our developers have a VPC images on their workstations with IE6 and IE7, and browser compatibility can be easily tested by developers, instead of waiting for things to be found in QA and UAT.

Special thanks to Ivan Carrion for pointing this out!
