Agility at whitehouse.gov

Even though Barack Obama has only been president of the United States for a little over a hour, he’s already updated his website. I don’t know how he found the time to do this – I figured he’d be pretty busy with parties and such today.

The part I found interesting was this:

Except where otherwise noted, third-party content on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License. Visitors to this website agree to grant a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to the rest of the world for their submissions to Whitehouse.gov under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.

While anything published directly by the feds is not copyright protected by law, it’s encouraging to see that 3rd-party material is licensed under Creative Commons.

It’ll also be interesting to see how the White House blog evolves. It will be neat to have an American president in office that seems to have a reasonable understanding of the Internets.

Finally, if I’m reading Netcraft correctly, it looks like the server supporting the Whitehouse website has changed in the last while:

Yay Linux!

A later addition: acting upon a suggestion from Greg, I ran Obama’s inaugural address through Wordle.

Remember Wordle? Alexei told us all about it a few days ago.
